Summary: This U.S. State Department-sponsored program provides e-learning opportunities for English educators outside of the USA in online courses offered through the University of Oregon.


Presenters' Bios:


Dr. Leslie Opp-Beckman is on faculty at the University of Oregon's American English Institute in the College of Arts and Sciences in Eugene, Oregon (USA) where she develops and teaches a combination of face-to-face and online e-learning courses. She has published, lectured and conducted professional training workshops in the area of Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL) for English language educators extensively across the United States and internationally in more than 40 countries. Some of her key projects include the video-based teacher training materials “Shaping the Way We Teach English,” contributions to the text “Online Language Teacher Education,” and program development and administration for the “E-Teacher Scholarship Program” which serves thousands of educators online each year through 10-week courses and massive online open courses (MOOCs).


David Fay joined the State Department in 2003 after a career in English language teaching, training and publishing. He has served in Tashkent, Moscow and Lima. One of 30 RELOs at State, David recently began a tour in Washington, D.C. as the Global Programs and Resources Branch Chief.
